Marquis Who's Who Honors Brandie Wolsefer for Expertise in Educational Leadership and Special Education

Springfield, LA — Across Louisiana classrooms, a pattern keeps repeating. Students are not able to talk through an idea with ease yet are freezing the moment they are asked to write it down. Although standardized test scores in writing have reflected this gap for years, most curricula give writing only a few minutes of attention. Dr. Brandie Wolsefer has helped build a company around closing this gap.

The problem, as Dr. Wolsefer sees it, is not that kids (or adults) lack discipline. The problem is that no one is teaching our children how a thought becomes the written word.

And even bigger problem is that newer teachers were often never taught how to write themselves, leaving districts with a gap on both sides of the classroom.

"You can't just say, here's a pen and paper, let's write," Dr. Wolsefer explains. "A student has to understand what they're being asked to say before they can say it on a page."

Her solution is Bayou Education Partners Group, an educational consulting company launched this year around a five-step framework: Hear It, Think It, Say It, Write It, Read It. Before a student ever touches a pencil, they listen to an idea, talk it through and speak it out loud. Only after the thought is clarified and understood does the pencil and paper come in. The method, detailed in her forthcoming book scheduled to be released September 1, 2026, "The Connected Writing Framework," is built to travel anywhere a lesson happens, whether the subject of the day is elephants, fractions or the American Revolution.

Rather than replacing existing educational programs, the Connected Writing Framework program fits into established curricula districts are already using. Students respond during whole-group instruction, and the platform flags where each child needs closer, individualized support. A teacher then steps in for that one-on-one work, an approach shaped by Dr. Wolsefer's years in special education.

"We are giving teachers the tools and prompts they need to teach writing no matter what they're covering that day," Dr. Wolsefer explains. "Nothing about the program replaces the teacher. In fact, it gives teachers back the time they need to sit with a kid and really hear what they're trying to say."

The company is working to pilot the framework this year in Louisiana schools with the greatest need, using assessment data to track growth over roughly a year.

As co-founder and co-owner of Bayou Education Partners, Dr. Wolsefer reviews data from schools and districts to identify needs and shares her results with educational leaders. She also designs improvement plans with strategies for implementation. The plans include tools and processes that allow teachers to implement what is learned via data into sustainable instructional practices that serve their students.

"With this program, students will be successful in writing, thinking, and understanding," Dr. Wolsefer says. "I have no doubt."
